Choosing a baseball camp in Toronto that is right for your son or daughter can be a difficult decision. Asking the right questions before enrolling in a program can help make this process easier and ensure a quality experience. Don’t be afraid to find out the following:
- Are the instructor’s qualified to coach baseball? It is important that all instructors are certified either in-house or with an external certification to coach baseball. Experience playing is definitely an asset but it doesn’t always translate to one’s coaching abilities.
- Are all instructors "singing from the same hymn book"? Different coaching styles can make for a frustrating experience.
- What are the ratios/ how many instructors per number of participants? This is important for safety reasons and allows for the appropriate amount of attention per camper. Typically 1 instructor to every 8 participants is best; as the participants get older, the ratios can include more participants per instructor.
- Don’t forget the little things. Do your research. Check out the establishment’s website. Ask other participants what they thought of the program. Observe the program itself. Look for things like organization, time efficiency, and overall programming. They may seem small—but they make a big difference.
A well developed program and establishment will include all of these factors and be willing to answer all questions without hesitation. Wishing you good luck in your search and a successful season ahead!
