March Break? Baseball Camp can be a HOME RUN!

Winter is quickly coming to an end which means March Break is just around the corner and with parents looking for something a little “different” and fulfilling for their kids, why not consider a March Break baseball camp? With a record number of children playing summer baseball here in Canada, the opportunity to tie in a March Break camp with a sport they love is pretty exciting. The social and team building benefits of camp combined with the discipline and health benefits of training for a sport like baseball always make for an outstanding and lasting impression on the campers.

At a well-run March Break baseball camp, children get the opportunity to be completely focused on the sport, where there are no regular distractions like homework, chores or other friends who don't particularly share the same interest of baseball. It is just baseball. All the time. If they love baseball they should love this kind of a camp. And if they aren’t sure yet whether baseball is a game for them, they will be given the opportunity to find in in an exciting and fun filled environment.

7 Characteristics of Top Notch Baseball Clinics

When searching for top notch baseball clinics, you are likely to find a series of offerings in your immediate area. While the information printed regarding the different clinics sounds rather impressive, it is important to know the difference between the options and find what is actually best for your child or yourself. It is necessary to pinpoint the areas that stand out in order to make decisions on which baseball clinics to particpate in. This knowledge should be readily available via a telephone call, an email, a visit to the provider's website and video samples, etc, and if it's not, you need to be skeptical of the clinic. There are many individuals who are just out to grab your money and not provide the very best knowledge and experience for you or your child.

  1. Experienced Professionals - Possibly the most important method for locating the best baseball clinics is through the instructors themselves. Knowing the individual's credentials is very important, as no matter how professional looking the clinic appears, if it doesn't have experienced staff members who are not only skilled but capable of effectively working with those enrolled, it isn't worth the money. For starters, it should indicate, either on the brochure or company website, what experience the instructors have. This ranges from playing experience to years of training young players to ongoing coaching development. Ideally, you want a mix of all three. At The Baseball Zone our coaches all have various playing backgrounds, from local to collegiate to professional; they all have previous coaching experience as well as a 40+ hour interning process they must complete with us before even starting on the floor; and they all must participate in ongoing development. We believe that a coach with 25 years of experience doing the same thing is really just a coach with one year of experience 25 times, thus the ongoing requirement for each coach's growth and development.

Are You Working on Your PFP's?

A much underappreciated and often undercoached aspect of pitching is the development of pitchers away from the mound. Most pitchers spend countless hours working on their delivery, adding or deleting a pitch within their repertoire and conditioning their body and mind in the personal development of becoming a successful pitcher.  What many pitchers fail to excel at is learning how to field their position once the ball has been put in play. In baseball terms, this type of development can be referenced by three letters...PFP.
